Dubya
OK, I've been thinking about writing something on the upcoming election, but wasn't sure if I should. I'm not a very political person, so I have no idea how to express myself here. But then I see the George W. Bush speech at Pennsylvania (recorded from Friday) and know I should say something.
Having read Bush at War, I know where the administration was following the September 11th attacks. CIA Director George Tenet was "convinced that bin Laden was going to do something big" prior to the attack, but the gov't paid no attention (Woodward 3). Bush then made little progress in the first few months, it being called a quagmire among officials but an upcoming success in front of the public.
Now President Bush insists that we must go out to stop terrorism. We have hit Afghanistan and Iraq, and he mentioned the threat of North Korea and Iran Friday night. I hate to sound "unpatriotic", but he will attack for another 4 years to protect us, with a seeming disregard for the effect upon civilians. I do not believe we need this extreme "protection". The current government and news media is making the world out to be a horrible place (Homeland Security, high fluctuating warnings, constant news of death and destruction), causing fear and reliance. I can't say anything else only because I already sound like an idiot...just my opinion.
